A man was hit by a stray bullet amid dissents in Mathare ghettos, Nairobi, on Wednesday 9th August 2017.
The occurrence happened as a group walked following interim presidential elections results that gave President Uhuru Kenyatta a lead over NASA’s presidential aspirant Mr. Raila Odinga.
Residents of Mathare slums engaged police officers in running battles, lit fire on streets, ran about with twigs and hampered transport of motor vehicles.
Police said the deceased had been attempting to offer assistance to a fellow friend who was stabbed with a knife when the stray bullet hit him. However, it is not clear whether the bullet was shot by a police or a civilian.
Other protests over the oncoming provisional presidential election results took place in Homa Bay County and in Kisumu, Kondele.
On the other hand, another man was shot by a police officer outside Nduru Girls’ Secondary School, a tallying centre in South Mugirango constituency. Its not clear why he was shot, however, the police is already in custody and investigations have been initiated as to why he shot the man.
“Our colleague was killed in broad day light for no good reason,” said Mr Evans Okwema who was an eyewitness at the scene of the occurrence.
