Chelsea football club have been on the low since the start of the 2015-2016 English premier league of football in August. However, after the signing of a temporary caretaker coach, they might be hopeful for finishing top 10 this season.
Currently, they have done some signings from other clubs for the women’s team, arsenal being one of them.
Chelsea Ladies are delighted to announce the
signings of goalkeeper Becky Spencer and versatile midfielder Jade Bailey.
Spencer, 24, joins following three years with Birmingham City Ladies. In that time she helped the Midlands club finish second in the FA Women’s Super League and reach the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi- final.
Spencer said: ‘This is an exciting move in my career and I can’t wait to get going. Chelsea won the League and FA Cup last season to
establish themselves as the team to beat and the opportunity to be part of that journey was too good to turn down.’
Bailey, 20, joins us from Arsenal Ladies and is a deep-lying midfielder who can also play in defence. A current England Under-23 international she previously helped England Under-19s reach the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in France in 2013. She said: ‘I want to develop my game and the opportunity at Chelsea gives me the chance to do exactly that.
‘The set-up at Chelsea Ladies, the club, team and the staff are the ideal fit for me and I am looking forward to getting started.’
Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes added: ‘Becky is here to compete with Hedvig Lindahl for the No.1 spot in this side. She has
developed in to a top goalkeeper and arrives with Champions League experience and a desire to reach the next level in her career.
‘Jade is a player I have known about for some time and for someone who is 20 years of age she has fantastic experience, having started
for Arsenal for the past two seasons. ‘I want homegrown, English players who want to grow with us. Jade will learn around some top players how to take her game forward.
But she is up for the challenge and she will compete for a spot in midfield, as well as offer another option in central defence.’
The new arrivals join Karen Carney in Hayes’ Double-winning squad for the new FA WSL season, which gets underway in March, after
the England international signed a two-year deal with the club last month.
