Records at the Nyayo Stadium Police Post reveal that Jaro Soja, known for having almost everything in Gor Mahi’s green and white colours (including his tea flask), is being sought to answer assault charges brought against him by Gor Mahia Organising Secretary David Kilo who was attacked by Jaro Soja among other football fans on February 13, 2016, at around 5.30pm, causing him grievous bodily harm, read the statement recorded by Kilo.
At the time of the assault, Gor Mahia had just lost 1-2 a Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League match against CNaPS Sport FC of Madagascar at the Nyayo National Stadium last month.
Kilo, as the club’s Organising Secretary, was directly in charge of CNaPS Sport’s welfare as a visiting team and as such, he sat at the main dais with the Madagascar entourage during the match.
As the 90th minute approached, and the score line reading 1-2, tension gripped Gor Mahia fans nicknamed the ‘Green Army’. When the referee blew the final whistle and with Gor having lost, again, Jaro Soja and a section of unhappy, and over zealous fans entered the stadium.
Kilo told the police that as the said crowd moved closer to the VIP dias, he saw Jaro Soja point a finger towards his direction, an action that made the rowdy group run where he (Kilo) and the visitors from Madagascar were seated.
