As per the incidence which took place in Nyanza province, a 64-year-old man from Kayamo Village in Rachuonyo South, Homa Bay County died after he was allegedly beaten up by the leadership of Legio Maria Church for sleeping when prayers were being held at his house.
The man identified as Mr. Charles Omwayi Oduk died Sunday morning November 19 2017, while receiving treatment at Rachuonyo South Level Four Hospital.
The clergy, comprising men and women from Dol Kodera and Opok churches, allegedly went to the late Omwayi’s home on Friday night for a prayer service, which ended tragically after they found out that the old man had gone to bed instead of taking part in the prayer service.
It is only his second wife, who took part in the prayers.
According to area chief, Joel Owenga, one of the members of the clergy was “directed by the Holy Spirit to the bedroom where Mr Oduk was sleeping”.
The “Holy Spirit further directed the member of the clergy to eject Mr Oduk from his bed”.
The members of the clergy thereafter assaulted Mr Oduk.
