Mombasa landowners owe county Sh11.5 billion in rates, official says.
Powers cautioned the defaulters to settle bill inside of 15 days or face lawful procedures prompting unloading of the plots. The district secretary Francis Thoya likewise cautioned the province government would stop all advancements or endorsements of building plans for the defaulters until they settle the obligations.
Thoya said the Sh11.5 billion in the hands of property head honchos, government services and state enterprises was sufficient to back the region government for two monetary years.
“The defaulters are holding Sh11.5 billion in area rates which is enough to run the region government for a long time in light of the fact that our yearly fair share from the exchequer is Sh5.7 billion,” Thoya said in a meeting.
Government organizations and services are the greatest defaulters owing the region government Sh6 billion in area rates.
They incorporate Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Power, Kenya Railroads Corporation, Kenya Ports Authority Pension Scheme, Bureau of Defense, Kenya Ferry Services.
