I was shocked to see I was 253 pounds (about 115 kg).
I knew I had added weight, but I didn’t expect it to be that much. Things got worse soon after when I was diagnosed with degenerative arthrosis.
Degenerative arthrosis gave me chronic joint pain that was worsened by the additional weight I had been carrying around for years. That is me on the right before I started my weight loss journey.
My weight loss journey began on February 2014 and by the end of the first week, I had lost 5.2 pounds (2.4
kg). It was not an easy first month – mainly from forfeiting fast foods that
I kept going though, and by the end of the first month I was a whopping 17.6 pounds (8 kg) down. I loved the new
journey and the changes that came with it and continued for another two months.
I must say the best moments were when everyone kept noticing I was becoming smaller, fitting into clothes I hadn’t worn for a long time.
In three months, I had dropped 4 dress sizes, lost 44 pounds (20 kilos), and greatest of all had no joint pain and felt wonderful! I could now wear my heels again without worrying they may snap and make me fall.
It wasn’t easy sailing throughout my weight loss journey. I took water when I attended parties, but this was made a bit easier since many of my friends new of my weight loss journey.
I remember a time I went to a restaurant for some office get together and I had my own food.
I asked to be allowed to eat it and stated it was for medical reasons. To this day I suspect the manager accepted my request after he saw my small salad portion. Calorie counting was another tough process, but I formulated ways to make it easy.
In February 2015, I sat for the ACE weight loss coach certification and passed. I’m now a fully certified weight loss coach.
My goal is to help as many people as possible navigate through the weight loss process so they can find the health benefits, joy and pride that awaits them at the journey’s end!
