OLIVE MUGENDA SHOULD KEEP OFF K.U

OLIVE MUGENDA SHOULD KEEP OFF K.U
An activist moved to court yesterday in a bid
to remove Olive Mugenda.
Mugenda is the vice chancellor of Kenyatta
University.
Okiya Omtata filed the case at the Industrial
and Labor Relations Court.
He said Mugenda has completed her
mandatory term and should vacate office.
Mugenda was appointed VC in 2007.
She was reappointed in 2012 by President
Mwai Kibaki for another five years.
Omtatah told Nairobi Justice Hellen Wasilwa
the Education ministry has not advertised her
position or sent her on a mandatory six
months leave to facilitate her exit.
According to the University Charter,
Mugenda’s term is expected to end in March
2016.
“In less than six months to the end of her
term, no advertisement has been placed in the
media announcing the vacancy,” Omtatah
said.

He said the best practice in the public service
for those approaching the expiry of their
terms is to proceed on a six-month leave
pending retirement.
Having completed the two terms, under the
law, Mugenda is not eligible for re-
appointment.
Omtatah wants the court to direct the
respondent to develop a criterion for
appointment of VC.
Wasilwa certified the case as urgent and
directed the activist to serve the university, the
ministry, state cooperation advisory
committee and the Attorney General with the
suit papers.
The mater will be mentioned on October 28.
