According to empirical and statistical reports, rape cases have been on the rise this year (2016) as compared to the previous year, 2015 and subsequent.
A school guard who assaulted a 17-year-old young lady in Likoni was recently sentenced to 15 years in prison. A post trial supervisor had suggested a custodial sentence or imprisonment.
The judge requested a probation report and a mental examination of the suspect after he conceded to the pollution charges. Mjera Nyota Matanda had confessed to assaulting the young lady at Consolata Grade School in Likoni, Mombasa Area, on February 27 and begged the court to excuse him.
“Your honor I ask that you forgive me. I won’t repeat that mistake,” said Mr Matanda when he argued to the charge.
In spite of his request for benevolence, Senior Principal Magistrate Ongeri Nyakweba sentenced him after he reasoned that the denounced had been on a one-year probation and was prone to rehash the same offense in the event that he was let to serve a common sentence.
“The probation report says that you are unfit to serve a non-custodial sentence,” he dominated.
